It has been over five years since this adventuring duo was last seen in a video game release, which was pushed aside as PlayTonic revealed the return of the ” favorite buddy-duo,” Yooka and Laylee. The announcement occurred during the Guerilla Collective showcase, as the developer announced Yooka-Replaylee, which is launching for consoles and PC with no release date to confirm.

The forthcoming platformer game is a remastered version of 2017’s Yooka-Laylee, which features vast visuals, gameplay, and control changes. This was evident in the official reveal trailer for Yooka-Replaylee, which dropped alongside the announcement as it highlighted new content for players to enjoy.

The Guerrilla Collective digital showcase revealed over 70 indie games from a diverse group of individual developers and small studios. The two-hour showcase marked the long-awaited return of Yooka and Laylee in the reveal trailer for Yooka-Replaylee, which the platformer duo “has never looked” this fantastic since their last outing.

According to PlayTonic, Yooka-Replaylee is the “definitive remastered and enhanced version of the 3D indie platforming” game Yooka-Laylee, which was developed by the talented minds behind other notable platformer classics Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. Yooka-Replaylee will put a unique spin on Yooka-Laylee with “remixed challenges” alongside classic ones set to the backdrop of a beautifully designed and enhanced world.

The remastered game includes a host of new, revised, and enhanced features and content, including improved challenges, an overhaul to gameplay controls, a new in-game currency to spend, and a stunningly new world map. For fans of the Yooka-Laylee game, the original game score has been rearranged to immerse players fully into the world, while Vendi has brought new Tonic flavors to Yooka-Replaylee, which should add an interesting tweak to their play style.

While no release date has been announced as of this writing, nor have the game’s platforms been confirmed, players can anticipate learning more about Yooka-Replaylee in the coming days. PlayTonic will host a live Q&A livestream with Senior Community Manager Steve James and other team members on 11th June 2024 on their YouTube channel to discuss the game and more.
