Embracer is closing down Pieces Interactive, <\/strong>the studio behind the Alone in the Dark reboot that was released last year. <\/p>\n

The closure was announced with a single photo posted to the studio’s X\/Twitter account, featuring the Pieces Interactive logo and the text: “2007-2024. Thanks for playing with us.<\/strong>”  The studio’s website’s homepage also features the same image, along with a brief history of the company and its accomplishments. <\/p>\n

Pieces Interactive’s latest release was Alone in the Dark, but the team also worked on titles like Puzzlegeddon, Leviathan Warships, and Magicka 2. <\/p>\n

No reason was given for the studio’s sudden closure, although a Q4 earnings report from Embracer<\/a> did note a “softer-than-expected performance” for Alone in the Dark. The title apparently “saw a positive reception from users,” but was also met with mixed reception from critics and “ultimately performed below management expectations.”<\/p>\n

Embracer Group acquired Pieces Interactive back in 2017, just a few years before the studio’s eventual closure. Pieces originally seemed to have survived Embracer group’s restructuring program<\/a>, which lasted from June 2023 until March 2024 and resulted in the closure of 44 studios. <\/p>\n
