Japanese studio FromSoftware has had an impressive 2024 following the release of the much-anticipated expansion for their fantasy action RPG, Elden Ring, in June 2024. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC<\/a> went on to become the highest-reviewed expansion, surpassing CD Projekt RED’s Blood and Wine DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt<\/a>, but a recent interview ignited discussions on the future of the game.<\/p>\n

Elden Ring’s game director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, revealed in a recent interview with The Guardian<\/a> that the Japanese studio is keen on continuing the game beyond the video game medium. This idea stemmed from Miyazaki’s comments on the potential adapting Elden Ring for the big screens, in which “A Song of Fire and Ice” series writer George R.R. Martin added his thoughts on the latest rumors.<\/p>\n

Martin, who assisted FromSoftware and Miyazaki with the worldbuilding for Elden Ring, recently published his latest blog entry<\/a> in which he detailed his thoughts on the Elden Ring adaptation rumors. The acclaimed author was recounting memories of the Nebula Award, which was recently presented by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA), which he, Miyazaki, and the team at FromSoftware had won for Game Writing in May 2023, which he commented on Miyazaki’s comments on an Elden Ring adaptation from The Guardian interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING… I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Martin’s comments surely added more fuel to the fire about the Elden Ring adaptation, which the acclaimed author may be bluffing about possibly happening. Given Martin’s position, having seen “A Song of Fire and Ice” series being adapted into a live-action TV series, Game of Thrones, and a prequel series, House of the Dragon, currently airing its second season on HBO, his existing relationships could help FromSoftware make the inevitable, evitable in adapting Elden Ring.<\/p>\n
