Nintendo’s June 2024 Direct presentation<\/a> saw the return of an acclaimed fighting game crossover franchise, Marvel vs. Capcom (MvC). The franchise will be rereleased as a collection, the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, featuring seven prominent and “legendary games” arriving this year on console and PC.<\/p>\n

One of the producers at Marvel Games, the publisher handling the MvC rerelease, discussed how the franchise’s return was made possible and spoke about its nostalgic element. Laura Hathaway, who serves as the product development manager at Marvel Games, was one of the first guests on the recently released podcast, The Official Marvel Podcast<\/a>, which delves “into the Marvel universe” and gathers the latest news and interviews with prominent figures within Marvel.<\/p>\n

Hathaway, who joined Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on the podcast’s debut episode on 26th June 2024, discussed the superhero team-based PvP shooter, Marvel Rivals, and the recently announced Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics launching for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam sometime in 2024.<\/p>\n

Explaining why Marvel Games decided to revitalize the Marvel vs. Capcom series by releasing the Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics game, Hathaway commented that the publisher has “a rich history of making games with Capcom going all the way back to Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and all of those really incredible titles that people remember playing back in the ’90s.”<\/p>\n

We’re always looking for ways to really surprise and hopefully delight our fans. The idea of bringing these games back was always really, really exciting to us, so we’re glad to finally be able to announce it.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The collection’s announcement indeed invoked a huge and overwhelming reaction from the fighting game community (FGC) on social media, and based on their reactions, a feeling of nostalgia was prominent among their responses. “You want to have the thing that hits you right in the nostalgia, but you also want to make sure that you are modernizing and making sure that it’s still fun to play on modern systems,” Hathaway commented.<\/p>\n

One thing that’s actually a really cool feature that they’re adding to this is a gallery and sound archive, so you can view game design documents, posters, music, and even like all those old instruction documents.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
