Publisher Warner Bros. Games has officially acquired Player First Games, the studio behind MultiVersus<\/a>, which Variety first reported the news of its acquisition<\/a>. This comes after the studio revealed the new content arriving to the free-to-play (F2P) platform fighter game on 23rd July 2024 as the studio confirmed its maintenance period<\/a> on its social media channels.<\/p>\n

The MultiVersus developer showed off some new content<\/a> arriving to the F2P platform fighter game during a livestream during this year’s Evolution Fighting Championships (EVO) last weekend. MultiVersus Season 2 is launching to consoles and PCs this month, and two new playable characters, Beetlejuice and Samurai Jack, are joining the fold, and a new gameplay mode is to be added to the game.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the developer’s acquisition comes amid multiple reported layoffs at prominent studios and publishers globally this year, including Eidos-Montréal<\/a>, Microsoft (h\/t IGN<\/a>), Riot Games<\/a>, Sega of America<\/a>, and Sony Interactive Entertainment<\/a> to name. WB Games, whose portfolio includes notable studios such as NetherRealm Studios, Monolith Productions, and Rocksteady Games, welcomes Player First Games to its growing family of studios while retaining its day-to-operations as its studio co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White remain at Player First Games.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from WB Games president David Haddad, “We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch ‘MultiVersus,’ and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”<\/p>\n

Player First Games co-founder Tony Huynh echoed this sentiment, stating that the team is excited to continue its relationship with WB Games following its acquisition. “Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be, and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”<\/p>\n
