The Season 11 trailer for Overwatch 2 generated significant hype, showcasing new content such as the Runasapi map, a Transformers crossover, the Pink Mercy Skin tied to the BCRF, and the first-ever Mythic weapon skin. While many expected a reasonable price for the skin, its addition to the store left jaws dropping.

The reason is that the skin is priced at an unreasonably high amount, even in my opinion, especially for a Weapon skin. Let’s take a look at the details surrounding why the community is in such an uproar about the price of the first Mythic skin ever added to Overwatch 2.

As previously mentioned, the initial reveal for the first Mythic weapon skin in Overwatch 2 came during the Season 11 trailer, showcasing Reinhardt’s hammer, the “Bound Demon,” which sported a Diablo-esque look with flames and a skull. This exciting reveal included a suspected weapon inspection feature, as Reinhardt appeared to spin the hammer around in his hands in the trailer.

However, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment. The weapon inspects feature turned out to be a “weapon flourish” unlockable through paid upgrades. These upgrades come in four tiers: Level 1 is the base weapon, Level 2 adds weapon reactivity, Level 3 includes the weapon flourish, and Level 4 introduces fancy kill effects that make players disappear in a flash of fire when killed by the hammer.

The worst part for fans is the price. Purchasing all levels of the weapon skin costs around USD 80 outright, without the Prisms from the Premium Battle Pass. Many Overwatch 2 players have voiced their protests online, with a post on the Overwatch subreddit calling it a “scam.” Another post lamented the $80 cost for all visual elements or $70 to get to the flourish alone.

Weapon skin cost too much money, Eskay angry 😡 https://t.co/iMKv8ypPCx

— eskay (@EskayOW) July 23, 2024

Overwatch 2 Players Are Calling The Price of the First Mythic Weapon Skin A “Scam”
