The original Resident Evil 2 is finally coming to GOG on August 27,<\/strong> the platform confirmed, and will join the first game in the Resident Evil bundle. This version “keeps all the original content intact,” but optimizes the game for modern devices with some bug fixes and compatibility updates. This is the first official modernization of the original Resident Evil 2, allowing players to experience the horror just as they would have back in 1998.<\/p>\n

Like the original Resident Evil’s release on GOG, the Resident Evil 2 release will include numerous modernizations and optimizations for modern platforms to ensure that the game runs smoothly. In addition, it will feature Windows 10 and 11 compatibility, and players will be able to play with modern controllers including the Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Switch, and more.<\/p>\n

Developers have also endeavoured to fix some of the bugs that hindered some players’ enjoyment of the classic; fans will be able to view text that was missing in the original, check a diary that didn’t function, and avoid running into some obnoxious looping sounds. While these may seem like minor quality of life updates, they’ll definitely enhance the experience on top of GOG’s other tweaks.<\/p>\n

As Resident Evil 2 joins its predecessor in the franchise’s GOG Bundle, many fans are wondering when the final promised addition to the bundle, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis<\/strong>, is coming. So far, there’s no announcement on when the modernized Resident Evil 3 will be released – but it seems pretty likely that we’ll hear news on that release following RE2’s addition to the store.<\/p>\n

In addition to the upcoming release of Resident Evil 2 and 3 on GOG, the platform has suggested that even more Capcom classics might be coming to GOG<\/a>. GOG’s senior business development manager, Marcin Paczyński, said that while releasing Resident Evil, the team “worked very closely with Capcom,” claiming that their “relationship grew in the process.” This could definitely open the door to more Capcom titles, like Marvel vs Capcom and Street Fighter, making their way to the GOG storefront.<\/p>\n

Many have been long awaiting the release of Resident Evil 2 on GOG, allowing new players to experience the horror for the first time and others to relive their nostalgia.
