For years, the void has been left wide open after Activision let its license to the Tony Hawk gaming IP expire back in 2015, which saw developer Robomodo working on the series between 2008 and 2015. While the extreme sports genre has remained inactive for years until the remake of the first two games in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2<\/a> released in 2020, Electronic Arts (EA) has quietly revived one of its long-standing franchises in Skate, ironically that same year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publisher had established a new studio in EA Full Circle, which has been working on the game since 2020<\/a>; it was confirmed in 2022 that the forthcoming Skate game will be a soft reboot<\/a> and will be launching as a free-to-play (F2P) title<\/a>.<\/span> Recently, the developer gave diehard fans a much-needed update on the development status of Skate, which will be heading to Early Access sometime in 2025, according to a recent social media post.<\/span><\/p>\n

Players, like many of us, have been eagerly anticipating more updates on the development of Skate since its official announcement, along with a new developer in 2020, ten years since the last game in the series, Skate 3.<\/span> With EA Full Circle at the helm of the series reboot, players will at long last get to perform grind and slide tricks, footplants, old-school tricks, and aerial maneuvres as they announced it will be launching in Early Access next year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Details on Skate’s development have been extremely quiet, especially as it has been available via EA’s Insider playtesting program for PC<\/a>, allowing the developer to continuously build the game using player feedback. This was referenced during EA’s Investor Day presentation<\/a> by the president of EA Entertainment and Technology, Laura Miele, stating that the developer has been “very progressive in our approach” regarding the game’s development, which they hope will become a community-driven platform that “transcends the traditional Skate game.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, EA and Full Circle are looking to continue this community-driven direction for Skate once it launches through Early Access to gain as much insight as possible through player feedback while giving players the tools, features, and accessibility to help them build an “authentic Skate game.” The Skate reboot game will be made available for consoles, PC, and, surprisingly, mobile devices, although the details on the latter platform remain unclear as of writing.<\/span><\/p>\n
