I’ve been playing Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred<\/a> expansion since launch, and one of the most exciting new features is the Mercenaries system<\/a>, allowing me to add a companion to my party with their own questlines and personalities and increase their power via unique Skill Trees. Well, some players are now unable to select a new ability or passive for their helpful companion, running into a Diablo 4 Mercenaries blank Skill Tree bug. <\/p>\n

So, as you earn Rapport with your chosen Mercenary, taking them along for the ride while completing quests or even endgame activities, you will periodically level up and get to select a unique set of abilities and passives.<\/p>\n

Some players are running into an issue<\/a> where the Mercenary Skill Tree is just blank, as you can see from the image above. After roughly eight hours of playtime with a Mercenary active, this happened to me as well while on the main quest in Nahantu. <\/p>\n

The fix on PC is a quick one, but not exactly something that is easy to figure out. Restarts of the game didn’t work on my PC and on Steam Deck, but one solution worked perfectly. The solution was found by a Reddit user called leyollo, who posted the fix<\/a> on the Diablo subreddit.<\/p>\n

To fix the blank Mercenaries Skill Tree in Diablo 4, simply head to the settings menu, then Graphics, and then select “Windowed<\/strong>.” Now, just open the Mercenary tab, and it should be fixed. Once the issue is resolved, you can revert back to Fullscreen mode.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, it is unclear how widespread this blank Skill Tree bug is and if it can also happen on consoles. The only confirmed reports so far are for the PC version of Diablo 4.<\/p>\n
