Fans are getting a special look at what went into developing the Silent Hill 2<\/a> remake’s eerie fog, and the terrifying monsters within it, with some new developer diaries from Bloober Team<\/strong>. These dev diaries explore the making of iconic protagonist James Sunderland, as well as the theory and decisions behind the game’s audio design.<\/p>\n

“Creating a game is a journey, and we wanted to share ours with you,” Bloober Team wrote.<\/p>\n

In the first dev diary, called ‘Meet James’ Sunderland’, developers discuss the challenges that went into developing an ordinary man put into extraordinary situations. “It would be very easy to get carried over the top with a very flashy design, but this would be missing the point of who James is a character,” said Pablo Poliakov, Lead Character Artist. “He had to be not too cool, not too good-looking.”<\/p>\n

The video even features some commentary from James’ voice actor in the remake, Luke Roberts, and showcases the motion capture used to create the characters’ dynamic facial expressions and movements.<\/p>\n

The second Dev Diary, titled ‘How Silence Turns Fog Into Fear,’ discusses the making of the game’s soundtrack and audio mixing. “We played the game a lot,” said Senior Sound Designer Mikolaj Buszko “We wanted to catch the feeling the [original game] evoked in us, and we inspired our designs on the original sounds, but we also took some of the sounds one to one.”<\/p>\n

Bloober Team’s Dev Diary series honors Silent Hill 2 tradition; the original Team Silent created a behind-the-scenes video revealing a look behind the scenes of that game called ‘Making of Silent Hill 2’.<\/p>\n
