Within the realm of content creation, there are plenty of video-capturing software like OBS Studio, Xbox Game Bar, and Nvidia ShadowPlay, but there’s a new alternative available on the market. Valve’s Steam<\/a> Game Recording has been in beta testing since June 2024<\/a>, allowing users to capture in-game footage and provide intuitive features to enhance their recordings and quality.<\/span><\/p>\n

This week, Valve announced that the Steam Game Recording feature<\/a> has left beta testing and is readily available to all Steam users. Additionally, new features have been included with its full release that Steam users can try out today, like exporting options and the Session View.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Steam Game Recording feature is the “new built-in system for creating and sharing your gameplay footage, which runs in the background so you never miss a moment,”<\/em> according to the announcement post. As this feature can be utilized in multiple ways, “from capturing your highlights to documenting entire campaigns,” it’s more seamless and efficient to record gameplay videos and clips and share them.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is possible with a few new features added based on feedback and bug reports users submit during the beta period. These features, which are available to access and use upon its full launch, include unique settings specific to most Steam games, robust exporting options, the Session View tool, which lets users watch their captured footage within the Recordings & Screenshots manager, and better hotkey options for a quick recording.<\/span><\/p>\n

Enabling this feature can be done once they’ve updated the Steam client before clicking on the “Steam” tab at the top left of the client and navigating to the Settings option. Next is to scroll through the multiple options provided until they’ve spotted the Game Recording setting and toggle the feature on or off, which can also be done while in-game via the Overlay and click Game Recording at the bottom of their screen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Locating their recording videos, clips, and screenshots can be found within the Steam Client by clicking the “View” tab at the top of the screen and scrolling down to find the Recordings & Screenshots. There are various filters to sort or organize their recordings and screenshots from all games or a specific game and if they just wish to view screenshots or specific types of recorded videos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Valve also confirmed that the Steam Game Recording feature is available to all Steam users for its PC client and Steam Deck owners, but as mentioned, they must update the Steam Client first.
