Blizzard has taken this return-to-the-past concept even further with the announcement of the Classic Event, where the game revisits its roots, bringing back 6v6, original abilities, meta’s, role selection, and maps. Overwatch 2 Classic Event: Returning Hero Abilities, Maps, and More<\/h2>\n

As detailed in the official Overwatch 2 blog post<\/a> covering the Classic Event, this limited-time experience brings Overwatch 2 back to its roots, akin to Fortnite’s “Season OG” event. Starting today, November 12, and running through December 2, players can “relive the nostalgia in a series of new limited-time events in Overwatch 2,” featuring the original heroes, abilities, maps, and classic 6v6 action.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>highlight of the event<\/span> is the exclusive return of Overwatch’s original cast, each equipped with their classic abilities. Fan-favorite features like Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow, Bastion’s original Ultimate Cannon, Mercy’s Mass Resurrect, and Mei’s freezing primary fire are back. <\/span><\/p>\n

Some heroes, such as D.Va and Junkrat, will even take damage from their abilities once again. Torbjörn’s upgradeable turrets and armor packs (“<\/span>Come<\/span> get your armor!”) and Widowmaker’s faster-charging shots with longer-range damage also make a comeback.<\/span><\/p>\n

These heroes and abilities will fit within the classic 6v6 format, allowing players to freely select any number of <\/span>any role<\/span>, as hero limits were not enforced in the original game. However, developers noted that hero limits will be introduced <\/span>at a later point<\/span> during the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

For maps, players will battle across the 12 original Overwatch maps in the launch modes: Assault, Escort, Hybrid, and Control.
