The Game Awards 2024 was a <\/span>major<\/span> event that celebrated another star-studded year in gaming, with Black Myth: Wukong<\/a> as one of the top titles. While the <\/span>game<\/span> took home two awards, the coveted <\/span>Game<\/span> of the Year title went to the unexpected contender, Astro Bot<\/a>. In response, the director of Black Myth: Wukong publicly expressed his disappointment over the loss and criticized the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Black Myth: Wukong Director Reflects on Missing Game of the Year at TGA 2024<\/span><\/h2>\n

Black Myth:<\/span> Wukong was a <\/a><\/span>huge<\/span><\/a> success upon release<\/a>, quickly becoming the second most-played <\/span>game<\/span> on Steam.<\/span> Given this success and its standalone nature, many, including director Feng Ji, expected it to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. <\/span>However, the award went to Astro Bot, <\/span>leaving<\/span> the Game Science team <\/span>disappointed<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Feng Ji vented his frustration on the Chinese social media platform Weibo<\/a>, questioning the criteria behind the selection process.<\/span> “<\/span>I must admit that there are disappointments and regrets. I really don’t<\/span> understand the selection criteria for this <\/span>year’s<\/span> Game of the Year. I came here for nothing!<\/span>” <\/span>he wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also shared that he had prepared a Game of the Year acceptance speech two years ago, a reflection of his <\/span>team’s<\/span> confidence in their work.<\/span> “<\/span>It’s<\/span> normal to be a little angry when you are so confident but not recognized by others,<\/span>” <\/span>he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
