The best of British gaming excellence was honored for their “outstanding creative achievement”<\/strong><\/em> at the 21st annual BAFTA Games Awards<\/a>. This year’s ceremony, which was preceded by the nominations announcement, was Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2<\/a> being the most nominated video game with 11 nominations, while indie releases Balatro, Still Wakes the Deep<\/a>, and Thank Goodness You’re Here! earned nominations.<\/p>\n

2024’s Game of the Year (GOTY) Astro Bot<\/a> also received nominations across multiple categories, and viewers had to wait until 8th April 2025 for the ceremony to take place and the winners to be honored<\/a>. On the evening of this year’s BAFTA Games Awards, the adventure platform game stole the show, winning five awards, including Best Game, while Balatro took home the top honor for Debut Game.<\/p>\n

The 2025 BAFTA Games Awards was held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, United Kingdom, on 8th April 2025, and the annual ceremony was available to watch live on the official Twitch<\/a> and YouTube channels<\/a>. Hosted by stand-up comedian Phil Wang, the night celebrated the best of video games of the previous year or eligible window, with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 leading the night with 11 nominations and composer Yoko Shimomura honored with the Fellowship<\/a> at this year’s ceremony for her musical contributions in the industry spanning over three decades.<\/p>\n

Team Asobi’s Astro Bot added more silverware to their collection, winning five awards from eight nominations as the night’s most-honored video game at the BAFTA Games Awards. Astro Bot has also received awards for Best Animation, Best Family, and Achievements in Audio and Game Design. Independent games stole the night with several releases taking home various awards, including Coal Supper’s comedy adventure game Thank Goodness You’re Here!, which was recognized and awarded the Best British Game.<\/p>\n

LocalThunk’s “poker-inspired roguelike deck builder” game Balatro<\/a>, which was 2024’s breakout release, was awarded Debut Game, which the developer jokingly revealed on social media that it was locked up in the bathroom as JIMBO-dressed Ben Starr accepted the award<\/a> on the developer’s behalf. Still Wakes the Deep took home New Intellectual Property (IP), and both Performer Awards and Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2<\/a> added Best Multiplayer and Best Music awards on the night.<\/p>\n
