With Stepford Cuckoo sibling, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-esme-cuckoo-decks\">Esme Cuckoo<\/a>, the Season Pass card for the month, the first card available through the new card acquisition system, is the electrifying Noriko Ashida \/ Surge.<\/p>\n<p>Surge looks to shock opponents with her electric gameplay and card ability, allowing Snappers to &#8220;cheat&#8221; out a card fairly early during the game and gain an advantage over their opponents. We&#8217;ll be explaining everything about Surge, including a deep dive into the card&#8217;s ability, previewing her best synergies and top counters, and providing three decks to try out Surge in Marvel Snap.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mcetoc_1iqlghu9u2\">Marvel Snap Surge Card Abilities Explained:<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marvel.com\/comics\/characters\/1010695\/surge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Japanese-born Noriko Ashida<\/a> gained her mutant abilities at birth, where she can absorb electricity and discharge or manifest it into highly combustible speed bursts, which she utilizes to defend fellow mutants. Class is now in session. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Lzw6HobqN2\">pic.twitter.com\/Lzw6HobqN2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; MARVEL SNAP (@MARVELSNAP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MARVELSNAP\/status\/1919834486856155280?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Following an unfortunate accident where she discharged her electrical powers, which saw fellow X-Institute student Josh Foley \/ Elixir tracking her down and Laurie Collins \/ Wallflower using her power to soothe her, they learn of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marvel.com\/characters\/surge-noriko-ashida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">her moniker, Surge<\/a> as Henry &#8220;Hank&#8221; McCoy \/ Beast devised a set of gauntlets to allow her to control her power better. Surge eventually remains at the Xavier Institute, joining the New Mutants, and for this new Marvel Snap season, she joins fellow New X-Men members on the battlefield.<\/p>\n<p>As a Series 5 card, Surge is a two-Cost and two Power card with an On Reveal ability to give the top deck card -1 Cost and +1 Power, which this ability repeats after that top deck card is played. With this card, particularly, there is a snowball effect where Surge can be played almost repeatedly with her synergistic cards like Grandmaster, Absorbing Man, Beast, and Toxin; the latter cards will bounce Surge back into the hand and at locations like Bar Sinister, Kamar-Taj, and Valhalla.<\/p>\n<p>Surge can be countered by Cosmo if attempting to bounce the card back into the hand with Beast or Toxin, or repeat its abilities with Grandmaster or Cable if their opponent gets to draw Surge before they do. Power buffing decks are naturally the first home for Surge, given the number of budget-friendly cards available in Series 1 to 4 that synergize with Surge like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-america-chavez-decks\">America Chavez<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-okoye-decks\">Okoye<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our first spotlighted deck, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nuNVaTKJjkc?si=sFythHkcX_yxh5NK&amp;t=907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">courtesy of Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper<\/a>, pools in a number of cards that grant power buffs like the aforementioned America Chavez and Okoye. Additionally, Phastos can either give each card within the deck -1 Cost or +2 Power, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-captain-carter-decks\">Captain Carter<\/a> is featured in this deck to add her power to the back row cards.<\/p>\n<p>In the first three turns, we can see either America Chavez or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-zabu-decks\">Zabu<\/a> playing with Surge on Turn 2 and the targeted card on Turn 3, which is for Surge&#8217;s ability to be repeated once that card is played. This can be in the form of tech cards that can eliminate or prevent specific card abilities from happening while maintaining an advantage over the game.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/FkN6BBS4UGE?si=6hvT3KGLKjRKnAEn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">electrifying tempo deck from Marvel Snap content creator Regis Killbin<\/a> also includes Hope Summers to gain additional energy each turn to play on curve while maintaining location priority. Turn 1 could see either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-kitty-pryde-decks\">Kitty Pryde<\/a> or Zabu open the game with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-angela-decks\">Angela<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-kate-bishop-decks\">Kate Bishop<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-jeff-decks\">Jeff the Baby Land Shark<\/a> on Turn 2, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-hope-summers-decks\">Hope Summers<\/a> on the Angela location on Turn 3.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This sets up Kitty Pryde to be played on the Angela\/Hope Summers location with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-elsa-bloodstone-decks\">Elsa Bloodstone<\/a> in an adjacent location, or alternatively, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-galacta-decks\">Galacta<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-gwenpool-decks\">Gwenpool<\/a> with Scarlet Spider and one of Kate Bishop&#8217;s Arrow token cards on Turn 5. However, this time we won&#8217;t include Cuckoo in this Surfer deck, especially for Snappers not looking to get the card through the Season Pass, but other cards will be featured in its stead.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GpbA8kNUv_0?si=TpMRJEUXyDgomg8g&amp;t=475\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">silvery surfin&#8217; deck from Marvel Snap content creator Tuccrr<\/a> sees Zabu played on Turn 1 to discount the four-Cost cards in the deck with Surge in the following turn, so that the targeted card can get onto the board on Turn 3. Alternatively, Captain Carter can join the board on Turn 3 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-brood-decks\">Brood<\/a> at Carter&#8217;s location on Turn 4 and the Surge-targeted card with either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-juggernaut-decks\">Juggernaut<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-sebastian-shaw-decks\">Sebastian Shaw<\/a> on Turn 5.<\/p>\n<p>Another option is for Galacta on Turn 4 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/marvel-snap\/best-sera-decks\">Sera<\/a> on Turn 5 to set up the final turn playline with a discounted Enchantress to remove the opponent&#8217;s Ongoing cards.
