Seeing the name of Riot Games here is particularly interesting.<\/p>\n<p>The company plans to use this money &#8220;to begin building a prototype for gameplay, conduct consumer research, and expand operations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Frost Giant Studios is the second ex-Blizzard studio announced in recent times. Former Blizzard president Mike Morhaime and several other Blizzard veterans announced in September <a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2020\/09\/23\/blizzard-cofounder-mike-morhaime-launches-new-gaming-endeavor-dreamhaven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a new games company called Dreamhaven<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Blizzard and the future of RTS Games<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/RV1hz8dABpwS1PNGXEULyykK26A8G0_IIOIPkKynizc\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzL05ld0ZvbGRlci9Gcm9zdF9HaWFudF9TdHVkaW9zL2JsaXp6YXJkX3J0c19TdGFyQ3JhZnRfMl93YXJjcmFmdF80LmpwZw\" alt=\"blizzard_rts_StarCraft_2_warcraft_4\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" loading=\"lazy\"><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Picture: Blizzard)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This year hasn&#8217;t been a particularly good one for the fans of Blizzard&#8217;s RTS games.<\/p>\n<p>Once a bastion of real-time strategies, Blizzard of today mostly abandoned this once popular genre.<\/p>\n<p>The highly anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/world-of-warcraft\/blizzard-responds-backlash-warcraft-reforged\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WarCraft 3 Reforged turned fiasco on the launch<\/a>, with clearly unfinished product stripped of many features that were originally present in the original game&#8217;s client from 2002.<\/p>\n<p>And while updates for WarCraft III Reforged are coming at a slow pace, the game is still far from being in a good state, and many promised features, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.blizzard.com\/en-us\/warcraft3\/23482833\/warcraft-iii-reforged-developer-update-ranked-play\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">like the ladder system<\/a>, are still absent from the game.<\/p>\n<p>Last Thursday Blizzard announced that they will <a href=\"https:\/\/news.blizzard.com\/en-us\/starcraft2\/23544726\/starcraft-ii-update-october-15-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">no longer produce paid content for StarCraft 2<\/a>, 10 years since the game&#8217;s release.<\/p>\n<p>This means there will be no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/starcraft-2\/all-starcraft-2-co-op-commanders-are-free-to-play-until-april-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">new co-op commanders<\/a> nor War Chests (Blizzard&#8217;s versions of Battle Pass for StarCraft 2).<\/p>\n<p>They will continue to support the competitive community with balance updates and seasonal patches, and the esports scene will continue at least until March 2023, since Blizzard and ESL have a 3-year contract to run <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.eslgaming.com\/tour\/sc2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">StarCraft 2 ESL Pro Tour,<\/a> but after that nothing is certain.<\/p>\n<p>With so many RTS veterans leaving the studio in the past few years, it is unlikely that Blizzard plans to work on any RTS title in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Frost Giant Studios made its formal debut on Monday and it is composed of several high-profile ex-Blizzard developers, with huge experience when it comes to&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1832,"featured_media":9018,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9017","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-video-games","genre-rts","content_type-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
