{"id":9827,"date":"2020-11-14T18:32:11","date_gmt":"2020-11-14T18:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/call-of-duty-warzone-runs-at-120fps-on-series-x-but-not-on-ps5"},"modified":"2020-11-14T18:32:11","modified_gmt":"2020-11-14T18:32:11","slug":"call-of-duty-warzone-runs-at-120fps-on-series-x-but-not-on-ps5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/cod-mw\/call-of-duty-warzone-runs-at-120fps-on-series-x-but-not-on-ps5","title":{"rendered":"Call of Duty: Warzone runs at 120fps on Series X, but not on PS5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The next generation of consoles has finally arrived, and many last-gen games can be played on the new consoles from the get-go.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most popular games are getting next-gen upgrades as well, which includes better visuals, higher resolutions, and more frames per second.<\/p>\n<p>Like Call of Duty: Warzone, the battle royale portion of Modern Warfare, which is available on Xbox Series X\/S and PS5 from day one but it appears that the game is not offering the same performance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/pbvSb2xiokaL14nAHQCd-c7CT2DPHDWJx8u8y9OxqII\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzL05pa29sYV9TYXZpJUM0JTg3L3dhcnpvbmVfeGJveF9zZXJpZXNfeF8xMjBfZnBzLmpwZw\" alt=\"Does warzone run on Xbox series X at 120fps\" width=\"1024\" height=\"555\" loading=\"lazy\"><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Picture: Activision)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On 9th November, Warzone&#8217;s developer Infinity Ward released an update which apparently added full support for 120fps, even though it is not mentioned in the update&#8217;s patch notes.<\/p>\n<p>Xbox Series X owners quickly spotted that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/XboxSeriesX\/comments\/js3pp0\/warzone_is_120_fps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Warzone is running at 120fps<\/a>, but on the PS5 the game is locked at 60fps.<\/p>\n<p>The game is running at 60fps even in performance mode, a special PS5 feature that boosts the performance of older games.<\/p>\n<p>The current version of Warzone available for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 works through backwards compatibility.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/EBCM9lD4IyShQCV5hty_TBMAoeNnfCVuwvODaNd2KcE\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzL05pa29sYV9TYXZpJUM0JTg3L3dhcnpvbmVfeGJveF9zZXJpZXNfeF8xMjBmcHMuanBn\" alt=\"Warzone Xbox Series X 120fps support\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Picture: Activision)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The issue here is that PS5 backwards compatibility software doesn&#8217;t support 120fps, because the PS4 Pro doesn&#8217;t have 120Hz output support.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, in 2019 Microsoft added 120Hz output options to Xbox One S\/X OS.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Read more: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/video-games\/upgrade-ps4-games-to-ps5-free-all-compatible-games-features-cross-progression-and-more\">Upgrade PS4 games to PS5 free: All compatible games, enhancements, save transfer, and more<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If PS5 is to run older games at 120fps, Sony would have to update the PS4 Pro OS with 120Hz output support.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/k6i4Kfa-Ybxp_6ORQ2WvM7CzhvP8pPWrYJQqnZljBTE\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzL05pa29sYV9TYXZpJUM0JTg3L3JvY2tldF9sZWFndWVfMTIwX2Zwc191cGRhdGUuanBn\" alt=\"Rocket League 120fps Xbox Series X support\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Picture: Psyonix)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Warzone is not the only popular title that will lack 120fps support on PS5 while having the game running at 120fps on Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n<p>Psyonix has recently announced that Rocket League will have the option to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2020\/11\/heres_why_rocket_league_cant_run_at_120fps_on_ps5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">run at 120fps on Xbox Series X<\/a>, while the game will be locked at 60fps on the PS5.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Enabling 120hz on Xbox Series X|S is a minor patch, but enabling it on PS5 requires a fully native port due to how backwards compatibility is implemented on the console, and unfortunately wasn&rsquo;t possible due to our focus elsewhere.&#8221;
