Break your Oath.
Baldur's Gate 3: How To Become An Oathbreaker Paladin

Paladins in Baldur's Gate 3 have three different Oaths that they can follow, all of which follow different Tenets and have different ideals that you're supposed to strive to meet. A good Paladin follows their Tenets, but if you want to be a bad Paladin then there's also an option to break your Oath.

How To Break Your Oath In Baldur's Gate 3

Since there are a few different Oaths in Baldur's Gate 3, there are also a few different ways to break them. What we've done instead of listing every single way to break each Oath is list one way for each that will consistently break your Oath and allow you to become an Oathbreaker.

Oath Of Vengeance

To break the Oath of Vengeance there's one sure-fire way that we've found. Free the Goblin trapped in the Emerald Grove in Act 1 of the game. An Oath of Vengeance Paladin has pledged to right all wrongs and deliver justice, so freeing somebody who deserves justice who goes against everything that they stand for.

Oath Of The Ancients

Oath of the Ancients Paladins fight on the side of light against darkness to preserve life. So, it stands to reason that the best way to break this Oath is just to kill somebody who absolutely doesn't deserve it. Find a random person, kill them in combat and you'll immediately lose your Oath.

Oath Of Devotion

An Oath of Devotion Paladin fights to preserve the greater good. One of the most reliable things you can do to break this Oath is to attack somebody who hasn't already provoked you. This means that you're no longer pursuing the greater good and are instead pursuing your own darker desires.

How To Become An Oathbreaker

As you break your Oath you'll get an extremely brief cutscene where the Oathbreaker Knight appears and tells you that you've broke your Oath, and he'll see you later. Take a long rest and the Oathbreaker Paladin will be at your camp. He'll offer to either make you an Oathbreaker or pay a penance to restore your Oath.
