Snakes are one of many creature enemies players will battle against when exploring the Desert and Jungle biomes of Conan Exiles. Depending on their rarity, they can be challenging to defeat; however, in the Age of War Chapter 2 update, they can be acquired as pets.

This does require players to locate and collect snake eggs found throughout the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah before taming. If you wish to become a snake owner, we’ve explained how to tame and best use snakes in Conan Exiles in this guide.

How To Tame Snakes As Pets In Conan Exiles?

Taming snakes as pets is a relatively straightforward process, guaranteeing you have obtained a few snake eggs when exploring the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah. Once you have enough snake eggs, bring them back to your home base, and like with most animal eggs, players are to place them within a Compost Heap and wait about two hours for the egg to hatch into a baby snake.

Alternatively, they can leave the egg to hatch within their Inventory; however, it takes much longer to hatch as they’ll have to wait around two days for the egg to be hatched. After the snake hatchlings have hatched from the eggs, you can begin taming them by placing them within the Small Animal Pen, which requires five Twine, 75 Stone, and 100 pieces of Wood to craft.

Likewise, it would be best to have the Feed Box crafted to feed the snake hatchlings any meat to get one of two snakes: the standard Cobra and the Cobra Alpha. But there is a chance you may receive more Cobra Alphas when feeding them higher rarity meats; however, we can’t confirm the quantity, so players are to keep that in mind.

Nevertheless, once the taming process is complete, players will have obtained the standard Cobra and the Cobra Alpha, which can be utilized in various ways, including keeping them as pets. We advise taming as many snakes as possible because they are best used in larger groups rather than solo or duos.

As previously alluded, snakes are better served in larger groups, so players must ensure they have obtained as many sake eggs as possible before hatching and taming them. According to one Reddit post, snakes have a few weaknesses, including extremely low health or HP, so having less than five snakes won’t significantly impact enemies.

This does mean that they’re inadequate to have as followers as enemy NPCs can quickly eliminate them despite giving them a Poison status effect and leaving you more vulnerable to mob attacks. They do, however, work extremely well in larger groups, especially when guarding treasure inside the treasure room or placed within a false floor where enemies can drop down into a pit of snakes.

This is due to these groups of snakes inflicting a Poison and staggering effect, rendering enemies immobilized, and they can attack more consistently. We recommend not leveling or upgrading these snakes as they won’t have much value with their low HP and will waste players’ time.

The Age of War Chapter 2 update is available now as of 21st September 2023 across all available platforms. Conan Exiles is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Epic Games Store and Steam.
