GTA Online Animals: Where Are They And Why Aren't They Showing

It is that time of the year again when GTA Online receives a major update. The winter update for the game is here with a slew of new content to check out. For example, the new chop shop missions have given players a new way to earn cash and it is a new form of heist as well. Drifting mods is also a major update for certain vehicles.

But on top of the larger updates in GTA Online, there are also the smaller ones. One of them is the addition of animals (finally) to the game. It only took 10 years, but Rockstar has at long last added a whole bunch of wildlife to interact with.

However, it's completely understandable if you have questions about how this wildlife feature works in GTA Online. So here's a quick guide to get you up to speed.

Where Are The Animals In GTA Online

Well, there should be everywhere. However, if you still can't see any animals or wildlife whilst playing, there's likely a very simple and easy explanation. You're using old hardware.

In the original announcement for this update, Rockstar Games said that animals will only be found in the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of GTA Online. It's a next-gen only feature, so even players on the PS5 playing the PS4 version of GTA Online will not be able to see them either.

Why Are No Animals Spawning In GTA Online On PC

Again, this isn't a glitch, but as per the initial announcement, the new wildlife roaming the game can only be found or experienced on PS5 and Xbox Series versions of GTA Online. That also means PC players will miss out, just like certain other 'next-gen console' only features for GTA Online. Quite why that is the case, isn't clear, but fingers you're not waiting as long as it will likely take to bring GTA 6 to PC.

Can You Adopt Animals In GTA Online

The short and simple answer is no, players cannot adopt animals or wildlife in GTA Online.

The animals that are added in GTA Online are wild animals that players can see across the map, but not own or tame. These are not animals that are brought in as pets. Even the dogs and the cats roaming the streets that players see in the city of Los Santos cannot be adopted. This isn't to say they can't be interacted with, as animals can (and will) attack you when provoked. As if you don't have enough to worry about around Los Santos.

Most of the animals in GTA Online are found in the northern areas. Sandy Shores and Paleto are great locations to see some of the new wildlife away from the main city. But animals can be found anywhere within Freemode in GTA Online right now.
