Hunters heading into the Louisiana Bayou will face various challenges, from ferocious and demonic creatures, to opposing Hunters vying to be the first ones to take the bounties. While this experience can be a fun challenge to take on solo, many want to know whether you can load up Hunt: Showdown with their friends on different platforms, and luckily we have the answers.

Below, we'll be exploring the features that Hunt: Showdown gives players about crossplay and cross-platform functionality. So let's dive right in and explore what you need to know about these features in Hunt: Showdown.

Hunt: Showdown - Crossplay and Cross-Platform Features Explained

There are quite a few features to discuss when it comes to the cross-play and cross-platform functionality offered by Hunt: Showdown. We'll break them up into sections, covering the game's cross-platform capabilities, cross-gen play, and finally cross-progression, so let's begin.

Does Hunt: Showdown feature Cross-Platform/Play?

At the time of writing, the answer to this question is a mix of both yes and no. If you're playing on a console, you have the ability to team up with your friends who are on a different console. This means that if you're on Xbox, for instance, you don't need to buy a PlayStation and an additional game copy to experience the unique monster-hunting concept showcased in the game.

However, if you're playing on a PC and want to play with your friends on a console, or vice versa, the situation is different. You will need to be on the same type of platform to play, meaning those with consoles can only play with those on console, and those on PC can only play with others on PC. Presently, there is no crossplay support available, and there appear to be no plans to introduce it to this platform.

Although it might be desirable for players to engage in PvE events on PC with friends playing on consoles, the developers seem to avoid implementing a subpar version of crossplay that works only for specific game modes. As Hunt: Showdown features both PvE and PvP elements, the developers seem to want to maintain fairness and not give any particular group an advantage. This is fair, given the harsh and competitive nature of the game and the tons of balancing required for crossplay functionality.

Does Hunt: Showdown Feature Cross-Generation Play?

For players interested in teaming up with friends using current-generation consoles, there's good news. Both the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 can play together with their counterparts from the previous console generation without any problems or drawbacks. This is particularly beneficial for players who want to enjoy the game's enhanced graphics on their new consoles while playing with friends who haven't upgraded yet.

Does Hunt: Showdown Feature Cross-Progression?

Players can also transfer their user data to a new console, but only if they stay within the same console family. (Picture: Crytek)

If you've been playing Hunt: Showdown on your PlayStation 4 and are now considering moving up to a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S, you might be curious about transferring your saved progress to the new console. If you're looking to do this, it boils down to you simply needing to stick to the same console family.

While cross-play exists between consoles, the ability to transfer your saved data to a different console brand is not supported. This means that players who've invested countless hours into Hunt: Showdown on a PlayStation 4 will need to switch to a PlayStation 5 to retain their progress, as their character, equipment, and add-ons won't transfer to a different console family, such as the Xbox consoles.
