Like most survival games, in Nightingale you'll need to craft and use a variety of tools to survive within the Fae Realms. These tools ranged from simple and crude, to more elaborate and powerful weaponry. The problem is that each weapon and tool has durability. When that durability drops too low, the item becomes ineffective.

The good news is that you can easily repair items when you notice they're starting to fail. Below, we'll go over exactly what you need to do to check an item's durability, and repair it back to an effective state.

First, to determine which items need repairing, you'll need to check its durability. On your hotbar, where you've equipped items such as axes and sickles, you'll notice each one has a bar underneath it. This is the item durability bar, where you can see just how worn that particular item is.

You can also see an item durability bar for your equipped armor and clothes. Simple open up your Inventory and look on the right hand side at your equipped clothing.

Next, it's time to repair the items. Hover over the item you wish to repair and right-click. You'll see a small menu with a number of options. Click "Repair" and you'll be told how much Essence you'll need to repair this item. Commit the Essence and the item will be repaired back to full strength.

If you're running low on Essence, you'll need to get more. Thankfully, it's easy to come by. Essence will drop occassionlly from enemies you defeat, but there's an easier way to collect Essence.

If you've got some extra materials in your inventory that you don't have a use for, you can extract the Essence from these items. Again, hover over the item you want to convert to Essence and right-click. You'll see an option to "Extract." Select this and you'll see how much Essence you'll receive in exchange for the item, which will be destroyed in the process.

Essence is also used to trade for useful items and blueprints at the Essence Trader, so you'll get used to this mechanic fairly quicky.

Nightingale is available to play on PC via Steam and The Epic Games Store. The game launched in early acess on February 20, 2024.
