Palworld 1.0 Brings Biggest Player Surge Since Early Access Launch

Vibrant fantasy landscape with floating islands and colorful creature silhouettes in Palworld

Palworld’s full Version 1.0 release has delivered one of the biggest player count surges in the game’s history, with 855,525 concurrent players on Steam recorded on Sunday – the highest figure since its explosive Early Access debut back in January 2024. And with the game also available on PS5 and included in Xbox Game Pass, the total across all platforms could well have pushed past one million players at its peak, according to VGC.

What’s New in Palworld Version 1.0

Pocketpair’s creature-collecting survival game originally launched on Steam in January 2024 and hit an all-time peak of just over 2.1 million concurrent players in that first month. After that initial rush, weekly peaks generally settled between 25,000 and 50,000 – spiking briefly above 200,000 with the Feybreak update in December 2024, and around 122,000 following a major update in June 2025. Version 1.0 has now blown both of those figures out of the water.

The 1.0 update is a substantial overhaul rather than a simple graduation from Early Access. Almost every major mechanic in the game has been reworked, and a significant chunk of new content has been added alongside it. Here’s what’s in:

New Content and Changes

  • Sunreach – a brand new area featuring floating islands above the main world map
  • 72 new Pals added, bringing the total roster to 287 species
  • Increased level cap
  • Character redesigns across the existing roster
  • Full visual and audio overhaul
  • Reworks to almost every major game mechanic

It’s the kind of sweeping update that other live-service games build entire seasonal roadmaps around – similar in ambition to the The Finals Year 3 roadmap, which set out a long arc of content drops to keep its player base engaged across multiple seasons.

The scale of the 1.0 response makes sense when you consider the large player base Pocketpair had already built up across Steam, Xbox, and PS5 before this launch.

That’s everything confirmed about Palworld Version 1.0’s launch and what’s new in the update. Pocketpair has framed this as the start of Palworld’s post-launch era rather than a finish line, so further updates and new content are expected to follow.
