All Alan Wake 2 Writer’s Journey Video Locations

There are a total of 8 Writer's Journey Videos to collect throughout Alan Wake 2. Some of these are unavoidable, meaning you will get them by default just progressing through the game. However, half are missable if you don't play your cards right!

The Writer's Journey Videos are activated automatically as long as you are in close enough proximity to the required TV. You won't be prompted for an interaction—they will just play.

So if they aren't playing, then you are probably not close enough, or you are at the wrong TV. Otherwise, you must return to the area later because your chance has passed. Okay, so now that we have that out the way, where are all the Writer's Journey Videos in Alan Wake 2?

Writer's Journey Video 1: The Dark Place

This one is impossible to miss as it is fully automatic with progressing through the game. Simply complete Initiation 1: Late Night, and this Alan Wake 2 Writer's Journey Video will play at the end of the chapter at the final cutscene.

Writer's Journey Video 2: Writing

This one is very simple. It is initially missable while still in Initiation 1: Last Night but will be available in later chapters. If you want to get it early, go to the Vision TV Shop and walk up to the TVs in the window to trigger it.

Writer's Journey Video 3: Murder Sites

This one is automatic as well—it can't be missed. This Writer's Journey Video in Alan Wake 2 will play automatically as you advance through Initiation 2: Casey. After you walk through the Break Room, it will trigger automatically!

Writer's Journey Video 4: The Dark Presence

This Writer's Journey Video can be missed, so be careful not to do so! It is found at the same location as the second video. That's right, just north of the payphone, you will discover Vision TV Shop. You must walk up to the TVs in the window again to activate it.

Writer's Journey Video 5: Visions

You will find this Writer's Journey Video during Initiation 5: Room 665 in Alan Wake 2. Go to room 101 of Oceanview Hotel. To get the key to this locked hotel room, you will have to go to the Ballroom Break Room. Once the chapter ends, you will not be able to get this anymore!

Writer's Journey Video 6: Drowning

This will trigger automatically when you are in Initiation 7: Masks and try to leave the studio after going through photos in the basement. At this stage, you almost have all the Writer's Journey Videos in Alan Wake 2! Don't stop now—keep going!

Just make sure you go through the shoebox filled with photos before leaving because sometimes it can bug out, as some players have had it triggered with or without going through the photos, and some not at all. 

Writer's Journey Video 7: Stop Writing

Once you are in Initiation 8: Zane's Film, head to the Break Room and turn right at the Concession stand. Enter the small room, and you will find the next Writer's Journey Video in Alan Wake 2.
