The ALGS Open is a significant tournament for the Apex Legends community, not just because it'll be the largest LAN in ALGS history, but it marks the first time the new Legend ban system will be used in S-Tier tournament.
Not only will this add a bit of spice to the viewing experience for fans, but players will have to get a little more versatile and strategic in matches. It's something that Alliance's captain, John "Hakis" Håkansson isn't worried about.
"For us, it's fine," Hakis said. "We're a very adaptable team. We've always been. So personally, I'm not worried, but I can see other teams that are very set in their ways struggle with that."
From a competitive angle, it seems the Legend ban is only going to make things more interesting for a team like Alliance. "I mean, it's definitely going to open uo and make the more flexible teams better," Hakis said. "Because it you only know how to play one thing, then you're going to struggle."
The prolific team came second in the ALGS Year 4 Championship earlier this year and, despite not securing the trophy, played their most impressive matches to date during the Championship.
"It's our best performing tournament by far. Getting the most points by a mile in only eight games. And with the Open, not only is the format different, but with the Legend bans as well.I think it's going to be very interesting to seehow this tournament plays out."
The ALGS Open begins May 1, 2025 at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, with 160 teams competing to secure themselves the lion's share of a $1 million prize pool.
