Aberration is classified as a broken ARK in ARK: Survival Ascended and its environment hosts some of the game's most formidable creatures, including the Reapers. These powerful and well-adapted beasts are worth taming, though the process is both tricky and dangerous.
Fortunately, you don’t have to tackle this challenge alone. This guide provides all the answers you need. Below, we’ll walk you through how to find and tame a Reaper in ARK: Survival Ascended's Aberration map.
Aberration Reaper Taming Gear And Requirements
Before you can jump right into taming a Reaper, you’ll need to prepare the proper gear for the task. First, you’ll need one or two sets of Hazmat suits, as they will protect you from the radiation present in the areas where Reapers live.
Along with that, you’ll need a strong tame to assist you, such as a Megalosaurus, a magnifying glass (more on why later), and a Light Pet, which emits charge light that damages the Reaper and is a crucial part of the taming strategy.
Now that you're equipped, it's time to head to a location where Reapers can be found. The southern part of the map is especially rich in Reapers, but the specific ones you’re after, the Reaper Queens, can almost always be found at the coordinates shown on the map (Lat: 60.4, Long: 72.2).
How To Tame A Reaper In Aberration
When it comes to taming Reapers in Aberration, the term "taming" is a bit misleading because you can't tame these creatures in the traditional sense. Instead, you'll need to allow a Reaper Queen (the only Reaper capable of reproduction) to impregnate you, resulting in the birth of a Reaper offspring. This process is similar to the Rhyniognatha, but rather than impregnating one of your tames, the Reaper Queen impregnates you directly.
The first step is to locate a Reaper Queen. As you explore the area, you’ll typically see dust kicking up before the Queen bursts out of the ground. Once you spot her, use the charge light from your light shoulder pet to get her attention, then lure her out of the radiation zone to a safer location for the taming process. Clear out any wild dinos in the area to give yourself space to work.
Now comes the challenging part—damaging the Reaper Queen while avoiding her deadly attacks. Be careful of her tail whip, which can dismount you, and her bites, which can deal significant damage. Your goal is to reduce her health to below 1,000, which you can monitor using the magnifying glass.
Once her health drops below 1,000, turn off the light from your shoulder pet and continue dealing damage until she’s just under 1,000 health (even high 900s will work). At this point, she will glow with a purple bubble effect, indicating she’s ready to impregnate another creature.
This part can be tricky, as the Queen regenerates health when the charge light is off, which could push her health back over 1,000 and stop the impregnation phase. Keep her health low and watch for the purple glow until she performs her impregnation attack. During this attack, she will scream, crouch low to the ground, grab you with her tail, and leave you at 1 HP while injecting an embryo into your body.
Once this process is complete and you survive, you'll have your very own Reaper embryo, which you can birth and raise into a powerful Reaper. If you’re ever accidentally impregnated by a wild Reaper or want to remove the embryo, entering a radiation zone will kill the embryo.
