You cannot grind or buy your way to traits. You’ve pretty much got to be there when chaos rains from the sky (literally!). When one of these Steal A Brainrot admin events kicks off, objects will fall from above and smack random Brainrots on the conveyor belt.

There are currently only 5 traits in Steal A Brainrot. It's speculated that another "Bubblegum trait" will be added in the July 18th update. Here's a table of their effects and multipliers:

The best trait in Steal a Brainrot is probably the Firework trait. Not only does it come with the highest known value multiplier (at 6x or more), but it also has extreme rarity—this is because it's tied to Independence Day on July 4th, meaning you won’t see it often.
On top of that, the Firework trait stacks with others, meaning if you land it on a Brainrot that already has something like Nyan Cat or Zombie Tung Tung, your resale value can literally skyrocket!
