With the arrival of Aberration in ARK: Survival Ascended, a wealth of new content has been introduced, but the highlight is undoubtedly the addition of new creatures, with the Yi Ling being a standout in this DLC. This creature boasts a range of abilities that make it exceptionally suited to the harsh environment of Aberration, and having it on your side is certainly worthwhile.
If you're eager to tame the Yi Ling and want to know the best approach, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ll guide you through the exact steps to tame the new Yi Ling in ARK: Survival Ascended Aberration.
How To Tame The Yi Ling In Aberration
There are several locations on the Aberration map where you can find the Yi Ling, but the most recommended spot is the center of the Mushroom Forest, as one or two tend to spawn there frequently. However, taming this creature presents a real challenge, as it doesn’t follow the typical knockout method—at least not entirely.
While you do need to knock out the Yi Ling, the process requires more than just tranquilizers, and you should be prepared to take some damage. First, make sure your character has a decent amount of health, as the taming process can be fatal if you're not careful. You'll also need a shield to protect yourself from the creature's barbed quill attacks.
Once you’re prepared, gather the necessary items to tame the beast:
- Aberration-exclusive Plant Species Z (at least a dozen)
- Narcotics or Biotoxin
- Prime Meat (amount varies based on the Yi Ling’s level)
When you locate the Yi Ling you want to tame, get its attention, and it will quickly aggro due to its aggressive nature. At this point, initiate the taming process by readying a Plant Species Z in your hotbar.
When the Yi Ling circles you, it will eventually perform a melee dive-bomb attack. This is your opportunity—throw a Plant Species Z at its head during the dive. If you land a successful hit, the creature will be knocked out, allowing you to feed it Biotoxin or Narcotics to maintain its Torpor.
Repeat this process until the Yi Ling's Torpidity is fully depleted. Once it's knocked out, access its inventory and feed it Prime Meat based on its level to speed up the taming process. Before long, you’ll have a fully tamed Yi Ling at your disposal for use across the Aberration map in ARK: Survival Ascended.
