Baldur’s Gate 3, a fantasy RPG that’s slated to release into early access on 6th October, has fans abuzz with excitement. The game is slated to hit early access next week for Windows and Google Stadia. However, before that happens, the developers have given fans some insight into what they can expect.

In a new community update, the BG3 developers have showcased one of the game’s most extensive features, that being the character creation system. With different races and classes to choose from, the system had to be fairly substantial.

In this community update, the developers went through the process of creating a character in Baldur’s Gate 3. The developers state that your character is extremely important and that the world around you adapts to whatever development your character goes through.

Of course, each and every character in BG3 will be different in some way. There are different races, subraces, backgrounds, classes, and even subclasses. Along with this, there are a plethora of varying options, 150 to be exact, when it comes to picking an actual head/face.

The character artists behind these designs went into extreme detail when molding each face in-game. They used real scanned faces in order to hit the level of realism that was desired. Faces of different ages and ethnicities were scanned to achieve a true mix of features. Blemishes were even included among the scanned faces to up the photorealistic process even further.

Although, since the RPG is set in a fantasy world, there are elements of each race in whatever head you ultimately decide to choose. If you pick an Elf of some kind, expect the ears to be long and pointy. If a Dwarf is more your style, you’ll be a little shorter in stature and wider in the face.

However, most of the facial elements can be decided by the player. From the beard to the hairstyle, your character can reflect whatever you want it to look like. Of course, there are limits within this system but not many that hold you back from designing your desired character.

For an Early Access title, there appears to be an extensive network of character customization options. However, the devs of BG3 have promised some surprises along the way, so there could be even more additions coming in the following weeks and months.
