According to Larian Studios, players must have 150 GB of storage space for both PC and Mac; however, the installation size is reportedly smaller than the storage specs. This statement was made by the studio's Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, on Twitter, citing that the installation size is around 80 GB, but having 150 GB is to be on the safe side.
While this FAQ post goes into detail on additional notes regarding system requirements for PC and Mac, the storage specs are the same for both systems. As per the game's Steam listing, the developer has listed that players can have an SSD on hand for additional storage should it be required.
It's worth noting that this applies to the game's minimum and recommended PC specifications for Baldur's Gate 3 at launch. Nevertheless, regarding the game's PlayStation 5 download file size, there has yet to be any confirmation from the developer or Sony on how big the game's files will be at launch.
Likewise, Douse's statements, which were in response to the game's PC specs in Early Access, can also be applied to its console port. It may be smaller than the PC port, but we are still awaiting confirmation from Larian Studios as we approach its PC release in August 2023.
As for pre-installation options, Larian Studios has yet to update players regarding the dates and times for preloading on PC and console. In the same breath, we are still determining if there will be the option to preload Baldur's Gate 3, for which we will update this page when more information becomes available.
