Baldur's Gate 3: Should You Join The Temple Of Bhaal?

Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 really throws you in at the deep end and even lets you join an actual cult.
Baldur's Gate 3: Should You Join The Temple Of Bhaal?

Baldur's Gate 3 has multiple returning elements from previous games, one of which is the Temple of Bhaal, a cult that worships murder, and creative ways to murder people. As part of your journey through the world, you're given the option to join this cult, and indeed you have to find the temple in order to find one of the main villains of the entire game, but should you actually join the cult?

Can you join the Temple of Bhaal in Baldur's Gate 3?

The Temple of Bhaal is a cult that worships murder and requires you to kill people in order to gain membership. Various murders are happening in Baldur's Gate itself which suggests that a lot of people are joining Bhaal, and you can do it too once you find the entrance to the Temple of Bhaal.

If you join the cult, then you'll have to go through several initiation rituals, involving sacrificing multiple different people to Bhaal himself. Due to this, it might actually not be worth joining the cult if you're not specifically playing the game as a villain or as somebody who is going down a dark path.

However, if you do want to join the cult, then you'll receive access to a few different dark endings at the end of the game, and you'll be able to claim the world for Bhaal. It's a dark ending, but it's an ending that you do have the option to take, and it's one that you'll have to take if you're looking to see everything that Baldur's Gate 3 has to offer.

Joining Bhaal With Jaheira And Minsc In Your Party

Since several of the members of the Temple of Bhaal have a history with Jaheira and Minsc (if you're looking for the backstory on that you'll want the first two Baldur's Gate games), you might be tempted to take them with you through the quests involving Bhaal. Be warned: doing this and joining the Temple of Bhaal will lead to some events that you might not want to happen. Spoilers follow, so look away now if you care!

If you take Jaheira and Minsc to Saverok, then he'll demand you sacrifice them to satisfy Bhaal. If you don't he'll become hostile since you brought enemies of the temple into his abode and you will have to fight a really tough fight.

If don't take them to Saverok, but DO take them to Orin before you decide to Ascend then they'll turn on you, saying that it's their responsibility to stop any spawn of Bhaal and you've gone too far. This sadly does mean that you will have to kill the two returning companions.
