There's a number of reasons why you might be looking to add bots to your custom MW3 games. For one, you could be trying to get some practice in with a simulated match, adding in some AI opponents to provide the right level of challenge.

But creating these matches and filling them with bots might be trickier than you imagine, but not impossible. Here, we'll walk you through how to create these custom matches and add bots to your game.

There are two stages to adding bots into a custom MW3 game, the first is to create a private lobby. To do this, you'll want to be on the CoD HQ homepage and on the Modern Warfare3 section. You'll then need to scroll across until you see "Private Lobby."

Opened up the option and select "Create Private Lobby." You'll now have the chance to customize the lobby, and it's here where you'll be able to add any bots.

You'll see the usual two teams, which you'll be able to add bots to. This can be to completely fill each team with bots, or to fill up any open spaces in your custom match. To add bots, click on the '+' sign underneath each team

This will not only allow you to add bots, but to also customize the difficulty of each one. You'll be able to choose between the following difficulties for each bot across both teams:

  • Recruit
  • Regular
  • Hardened
  • Veteran
  • Mixed

You can even remove yourself from the teams and let the bots duke it out, if you feel like it. Simply change your own team to "Spectator." Knowing how to add bots to your custom games will also come in handy if you've got uneven teams. Simply add a bot or two to whichever team needs the extra power, and adjust the difficulty appropriately. Bots are available across all game modes that support custom matches.
