CoD 2025 Rumored To Be Direct Sequel To Black Ops 2

2025 might still be far away, but it seems the year's CoD title could be related to Black Ops 2.

While we’re still very much working through our Prestiges for 2023’s Modern Warfare 3, fans are already looking ahead to what the future holds for Call of Duty. And it seems like that future might not be too foggy. Recent rumors have emerged that claim to know what Activision has in the works for Call of Duty 2025.

As reported by Insider Gaming, Call of Duty 2025 will seemingly be a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, though with a “semi-futuristic” twist. The outlet claims that Black Ops 2 remastered maps will be a feature of the game, and that the bulk of it will be “set in the very slight future.”

The last time Call of Duty had a title set in the future was with Black Ops 4, which launched back in 2018.

So what does this mean for the 2025 Call of Duty? Well, we can make a number of speculations, the main one being that CoD 2025 will be helmed by Treyarch. This arm of Activision has been behind the Black Ops franchise since its inception, so it would be weird to assume they wouldn’t be tied to this future installment.

We can also assume that some familiar faces from the Black Ops 2 campaign could be making an appearance. As a direct sequel, its highly likely players will be  picking up roughly from where Black Ops 2 left off. Of course, it’s been a while. Black Ops 2 launched back in 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.

At the time of writing, Activision has yet to reveal any info or plans on the 2025 installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Before that, we’ve still got 2024 to get through, and it seems rumors have already been flying around what to expect from this next title.
