Activision’s Call of Duty series is known for its annual main releases. Usually dropping around October or November, a new mainline entry drops across PC and console bringing with is a brand new online multiplayer experience. Right now, we’re still in Modern Warfare 2’s (2022) lifecycle, meaning that the majority of Call of Duty’s online game play takes place in this title alongside Warzone.
Every couple of months, both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone receive a new season update, complete with Battle Pass, maps, and more additional content. Season 5 saw the introduction of four new Multiplayer maps, alongside new events and crossovers. But as we move closer towards the end of the year, more teasers emerge for the next mainline Call of Duty title.
So far, leaks have speculated that the upcoming title will be called Modern Warfare 3, and a reveal event for the new title is planned as an in-game event in Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone. As exciting as a new game is, it leaves Modern Warfare 2 fans wondering just how many seasons are left in the current title.
When Is Modern Warfare 2’s Final Season?
With the arrival of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 5, we know that this season will come to an end on September 20, 2023. It is currently expected that Season 6 will begin on September 20, which will be Modern Warfare 2’s final season.
Call of Duty 2023/Modern Warfare 3 is expected to launch in November 2023. Some outlets have speculated that we could see a launch on November 10. Typically, the seasonal content for a new title won’t drop right away, meaning we could see Season 1 of Modern Warfare 3 drop in a later month. In the interim, players will likely be able to remain playing Warzone before the free-to-play title integrates with Modern Warfare 3.
As for Modern Warfare 2, it’s unclear exactly how long Season 6 will run for. It may come to an end with the launch of Modern Warfare 3, or it may run up until the Season 1 rollout for the new title. More information will likely come to light over time, with a reveal event for the 2023 title just on the horizon.
