While Call of Duty (COD) fans are excited for Modern Warfare 2 and its fantastic Task Force 141 lineup of characters, there's more to the iconic franchise right now than a campaign or even standard multiplayer. With MW2, there will be a brand-new Warzone 2.0 experience, and many fans might be wondering if their progress or inventories will carry over from the original.
In this article, we explain if progress from the original Warzone, including inventories, will carry over to the new Warzone 2 expected to release shortly after MW2.
Warzone 2 - Original WZ progress & inventories
We are just going to cut right to the chase now. Progress from the original Warzone will not carry over to Warzone 2. The latter is a next-gen experience connecting with Modern Warfare 2, built on a new engine.

Warzone 2 doesn't have an exact release date just yet. However, we do know Modern Warfare 2 will release on 28th October 2022, and the developers say "soon after, a wholly new Warzone will launch as an extension of the Modern Warfare II universe."
Going forward, across the franchise beginning with Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, one unified engine will be used, and the new Warzone, as well as MW2, will feature the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat on release day.
Activision talked about the new Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2, explaining how the original warzone will be a separate experience and confirming inventories, as well as progress, won't carry over to the new Warzone.
The developers state: "With it comes new technology, new features, and new gameplay that work seamlessly together. Throughout, we have taken a wide range of community feedback to heart. In order to fully deliver this state-of-the-art experience, Warzone 2.0 will feature new Modern Warfare II content and systems with brand-new progression and inventories.
"Today’s Warzone will continue as a separate experience that will include a continuation of player progression and inventories within that Warzone experience."
We do hope that Activision at least gives long-time Warzone players some form of little cosmetic item to commemorate their time in the game. Feedback about progress not carrying over has been a bit mixed, after all.
So there you have it, progress and inventories from the original Warzone will not carry over to Warzone 2, which is expected to release shortly after Modern Warfare 2.
