The steady flow of Civ 7 reveals continues with the latest First Look video featuring Ashoka. While we already knew Ashoka was in the lineup for Civilization 7, full details on two separate personas have now been revealed. The World Renouncer persona will link to previously revealed Maurya India, but the World Conqueror persona brought mention of yet another civ to join the growing Civilization 7 roster.
Civilization 7 First Look at Both Ashoka Personas
Not every leader in Civilization 7 will have variants, but many will have two different personas that players can choose from representing different periods of that leader's history. With the First Look at Ashoka, we've learned players can choose the World Renouncer or World Conqueror persona.
Well, some players. World Renouncer Ashoka will be in the Civ 7 base game, but the World Conqueror version is part of the Founders Content Pack DLC. Players who bought the Founders Edition will already have this, but others will have to purchase that DLC pack separately. We've got more details on Ashoka below, but you can find our complete list of confirmed Civ 7 leaders and civilizations here.
Ashoka, World Renouncer
Available to all players, this Ashoka persona channels a period when he experienced profound revelation and spread a message of non-violence. Here are some of the key leader details players can expect:
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Expansionist
- Historical Civ: Maurya (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Dhammaraja (+1 Food in Cities for every 5 excess Happiness. +10% Food in all Settlements during a Celebration. All Buildings gain a +1 Happiness Adjacency for all Improvements.)
Ashoka, World Conqueror
Part of what made that turn towards non-violence so significant is that Ashoka was so ruthless before that moment, and the World Conqueror persona certainly leans on that militaristic power. Here are some of the key leader details players can expect:
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Militaristic
- Historical Civ: Persia (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Devaraja (+1 Production for every 5 excess Happiness in Cities. +10% Production in Settlements he did not found. +10 Combat Strength against Districts for all Units during a Celebration. Declaring Formal War grants a Celebration.)
As noted above, Persia was confirmed as an Antiquity Age civilization in this First Look video. We don't yet know additional details, but there was a mention of Persia having unique units that could be beneficial to a militaristic focus for Ashoka. The most likely candidate would be the Persian Immortals, but we'll have to wait for more Civilization 7 reveals to know for certain.
