Bark may be one of the first resources many players will acquire from their early moments in The Exiled Lands. Due to the plethora of trees readily found throughout this region and the Isle of Siptah, using bark won’t become available until you’ve unlocked the ability to craft through the Journey system.

As for acquiring wood, this can be easily located as The Exiled Lands has abundant trees sprawling throughout its world. This guide details all the methods on how to get bark and its best uses in Conan Exiles.

Once you’ve unlocked the ability to craft, bark can be easily used in various ways, but before you can begin producing items, you’ll need to know how to get bark. Walking up to any tree you can find, you can “chop” the tree using a pickaxe or pick to gain wood with a chance to acquire bark.

If you don’t get any bark, do not worry; the wood accumulated from chopping trees down can be turned into bark. With the Carpenter’s Bench and higher grades of this station, you can place ten pieces of wood to gain one piece of bark, which, in turn, can be used for other purposes.

Another way of getting bark is locating “dead” or dry logs and trees when exploring The Exiled Lands and using a pick or pickaxe to collect some bark. Some of the best locations for finding dry wood are in the desert biome in the following areas:

  • Along Fingerfang Rock (C7)
  • Near Cavern of Fiends (E4)
  • Along the lake near The Sentinels (G4)
  • Around the cave at Gallaman’s Tomb (H4)
  • The surrounding areas of Pariah’s Overwatch (H7 & I7)

Once you’ve collected enough bark, you can utilize this resource in various applications; the most prominent use of bark is fuel for the Tannery and Dyer crafting stations. While you can use wood to keep the fires going; however, bark burns longer and faster than wood, as wood can be used in more important crafting items.

Secondly, the bark is one of two resources, the other being Ichor, which is needed to produce oil, for which we’ve detailed how it can be used. Bark can also be used to craft exotic spices, which can be added to food when cooking, like the Shadespiced Bark, which needs Shadebloom to make.

Perhaps the most important use of bark, aside from fuel, is used in crafting dung or fertilizer. This is primarily used in gardening as dung combines the byproducts of any variant of Elephant, Rhinoceros, Tuskbeast, or their calves along with bark to produce dung when placed within an Animal Pen along with some bark.

It can also be crafted in a Stable when a Horse is placed inside with bark fort dung to be crafted. Lastly, you can get a Horse should you place a Foal within a Stable with dung; however, it varies on which variant of Horse you’ll acquire.
