Are Destiny 2 Expansions Free Right Now?

Destiny 2 has grown significantly since its launch in 2017, with a new expansion released almost every year. Fast forward to 2022 and Destiny 2 is a meaty package that is still set to grow exponentially in the coming years.

With the Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion on the horizon, many players could be looking to get into Destiny 2. The best way to prepare is by playing all the game's previous expansions. Thankfully, Bungie regularly gives new players an incentive to try Destiny 2 by making all its expansions free for a limited time. It happens more often than not, and if you're wondering whether Destiny 2's expansions are free right now, you're in the right place.

Are Destiny 2 Expansions Free Right Now?

Unfortunately at the time of writing, none of the Destiny 2's four major expansions are available for free.

However, you can get most of them at a fairly discounted price, thanks to the ongoing Black Friday sales.

When Will Destiny 2 Expansions Be Available For Free Again?

Usually, Destiny 2 expansions get a free trial right before a big expansion launch or around the time of a big showcase. Bungie tends to release Destiny 2 expansions in February, with Lightfall currently scheduled to release on 28th February 2023. As such, you could expect a free trial sometime before this time period. 

Destiny 2 showcases usually happen in August, which is also when you could expect a free trial to happen. The most recent free trial ran from 24th August 2022 to 30th August 2022.
