Destiny 2 players have a lot to look forward to with the arrival of The Witch Queen expansion. The highly anticipated update goes live on 22nd February and is branded the "most definitive" campaign yet, prompting high hopes for 2022. Better still, the expansion arrives alongside new weapon-type, weapon crafting, and tonnes more.
However, players looking to increase the power level of their favourite weapons and equipment before The Witch Queen arrives will need upgrade modules in abundance. Thankfully, there are many ways to acquire upgrade modules in Destiny 2. Here's our guide to finding and obtaining them.
How to get upgrade modules in Destiny 2
The simplest way to obtain upgrade modules is to purchase them from Banshee-44 and Ada-1 in the tower.

Both have two upgrade modules on sale, which players can purchase with the following materials:
- x1 Enhancement Core
- x10 Legendary Shards
- x5000 Glimmers
- x25 Planetary Materials
The planetary materials change daily for both vendors, but the amount requirement remains the same.

However, unlike the Ascendant Shards, players can obtain a handful of upgrade modules through the season pass(both free and premium).
- x3 at Rank 2, 4, 8 (free battle pass)
- x2 at Rank 14,18, 21, 26 (free battle pass)
- x3 at Rank 34, 47 (premium battle pass)
Similarly to Ascendant Shards, players can also obtain upgrade modules by resetting their valour and infamy ranks at the respective vendors.
After reaching Rank 4 in Valour and Infamy, players can visit Lord Shaxx and The Drifter to reset their ranks and earn three upgrade modules in the process, respectively. This way, players can gain upgrade modules multiple times by resetting with no limitations.
Another way to earn upgrade modules is by consuming concentrated Mattergem, which players can purchase at 200 Bright Dust from the Eververse store.

Consuming Mattergem allows bosses to drop an upgrade module when defeated. Note that the effect lasts only till an upgrade module is obtained, so players can only get a single upgrade module through a concentrated Mattergem.
Alternatively, players can earn upgrade modules by equipping a modularity mod that rewards players with an upgrade module on completing certain activities, like strikes or crucibles.
However, players must first earn a modularity mode that randomly drops from completing playlist activities. Furthermore, players will have also have to masterwork their ghost shells to equip one of these modularity mods.
