Destiny 2 developer Bungie held a Reveal Event livestream in which they unveiled plans for the next year for the FPS game, starting with The Year of Prophecy, which will begin in mid-2025. According to the developer, every year cycle for Destiny 2 will feature "four major content beats: two paid expansions and two major updates" available to all players across its platforms.

Both expansions were announced during the livestream, with The Edge of Fate being the first DLC launching on 15th July 2025, and the second DLC is arriving in Winter 2025. It's the second DLC that is generating some excitement as Bungie and the Star Wars IP will be intertwined once again, although it's quite unclear how it will fit with the themes of the new season.

Destiny 2's The Year of Prophecy will officially begin with The Edge of Fate chapter on 15th July 2025 for consoles and PCs in which players can look forward to a host of new content, features and a new location, Kepler, which the developer stated is "inspired by the puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges of Destiny 2's dungeons." They further discussed this new location as one that "encourages deep exploration, mystery, and player-driven discovery," in which there will be brand new "destination-specific abilities," armor (gear), enemies, and weaponry to find.

The Edge of Fate chapter will be the first paid expansion within The Year of Prophecy, which is the second paid expansion, Renegades, arriving this Winter on 2nd December 2025, and it's largely inspired "by the legendary Star Wars universe." Destiny 2: Renegades is described by the developer as a chapter that "merges Destiny’s distinctive storytelling and gameplay with themes and elements drawn from the iconic sci-fi franchise."

The Renegades chapter will play a significant role in the Fate Saga, which the teaser trailer provided players with a sneak peek into the chapter's narrative themes, "while also suffused with inspiration from and homage to Star Wars" by introducing "new Destiny characters, innovative activities, and evolved mechanics designed to surprise and delight players." Those who've pre-ordered Destiny 2's The Year of Prophecy will be able to receive two Renegades pre-order items, an Exotic Ship and Legendary Emblem available from 9th September 2025, which is also included in the Ultimate and Collector's Editions.
