Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion will be releasing soon on February 28, and will bring tons of new content into the game. Players will get to face The Witness and his disciple Calus as they progress in the store, and in terms of new stuff, we will see a new subclass Strand, QoL - LFG, Player Commendation System & Guardian Ranks, and much more.
Before the DLC is available to download, the servers will be taken down for maintenance for about 24 hours, and during that time, it will be available for preloading which will save you the time that it will take to download the expansion after it is released. Thus, here are the details about Destiny 2 Lightfall preloading date, time, and its download size on all platforms.
Destiny 2 Lightfall Preload Date and Time
Destiny 2 Lightfall will become available for preloading a day before its actual release, which is on February 27 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET/5 PM GMT. The maintenance will begin alongside, and even after you have preloaded the expansion, you will not be able to play the game.

By preloading, you will download most of the data files in advance, so you won't have to download them again after Lightfall is released. Here is how much storage you will need to download Destiny 2 Lightfall on different platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Destiny 2 Lightfall Download Size
Lightfall's download size is going to be quite large; however, Bungie has revealed that despite this, players should notice improved loading times. While they haven't revealed the exact file size of the expansion, they have asked PS4 and PS5 players to free up around 80 GB of free space before preloading for "an additional install package to be downloaded on top of the existing Destiny 2 ones."
Thus, we can expect the download size of Destiny 2 Lightfall to be around 70 GB to 80 GB for PS5 and PS4 players. Based on this and the file size of the Witch Queen expansion, we can expect the upcoming DLC to weigh around 100 GB for PC, 110 GB for Xbox Series X|S, and 90 GB for Xbox One.
We will update this page once Bungie announces the download size officially. In addition to this, you must keep in mind that you will need both versions to be in storage for the pre-load to succeed.
