At BlizzCon 2023’s opening ceremony, Blizzard announced the Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4, as expected. To be fair, I thought it would be called “Lord of Hatred,” so I’m off by one word…
In any case, the reveal of Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansion has left me utterly excited and kind of drooling for a return to Diablo 2’s iconic region, Travincal. Maybe, just maybe, the High Council will once again appear to wreck the faces of players across the globe.
Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred Expansion First Details
Arguably, one of the biggest announcements at BlizzCon, is Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansion. Details are scarce right now, with the release date window of “late 2024” and one cinematic trailer.
The trailer did confirm the expansion will focus on The Lord of Hatred, Mephisto, who is Lilith’s father and one of the Prime Evils in the Diablo universe. The “Vessel” part is where Neyrelle comes in, one of the main characters in Diablo 4’s story, who appears to be getting consumed by hatred.
Blizzard’s announcement for Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred reads:
Vessel of Hatred continues the grim tale that began in Diablo IV, as you learn the fate of the prime evil Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary. To do that, you’ll be visiting a region new to Diablo IV, known by the locals as Nahantu. With this continuation of the campaign’s story comes new ways to play, new evils to vanquish, and a brand-new Class never before seen in the Diablo universe. Vessel of Hatred releases late next year, and we can’t wait to share more about it with you next summer.
The brand-new class is likely Spiritborn, which was leaked alongside many now-confirmed details, such as the new region of Nahantu. We’ll have to wait until “next Summer” to learn more.
Below, find some leaked details for the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred expansion to get the blood flowing.
- New class called Spiritborn (Reportedly using Glaives as a new weapon type). Files mention “soaring,” “nature” and “wings.”
- Kurast as the new region (from Diablo 2)
- Travincal is an area in the region.
- A possibility of raids.
- A mercenary system with their own talent trees and equipment.
- Crafting Runestones
With Blizzard really stepping up their game in Season of Blood following some mistakes in Season of the Malignant, the developers seem to be on the right track. Yes, we can’t wait to learn more about Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary!
