Disco Elysium: Should I Report My Badge Missing?

Contacting your precinct to report your badge missing could make you a laughing stock. It's best to weigh up your options before spilling the beans.
Disco Elysium: Should I Report My Badge Missing?

In its opening hours, Disco Elysium will swiftly remind you that you are, in fact, a policeman, who should have a badge that identifies them. However, after your first conversation with your partner Kim Kitsuragi, you’ll be asked for exactly that and after realizing that you’ve lost it in an alcohol and drug-fuelled binge, you’ll need to consider reporting it missing to your precinct.

In this guide, you’ll find out whether it’s truly worth the embarrassment of reporting your badge missing and what you need to do to find it.

What Happens If You Report Your Badge Missing in Disco Elysium?

To report your badge missing, you’ll need to head outside the Whirling-in-Rags and interact with Kim’s Kineema automobile, where you can use the radio to contact your station. Deciding to do so isn’t necessary to further the plot and won’t provide anything but XP for completing the task. It mostly just results in a very humbling experience for you, as you swiftly become a laughing stock once you reveal the item’s loss.

While a wholly funny interaction, reporting the badge missing to Precinct 41 can also force you to tell the team about your missing gun and automatically start the ‘Find Your Gun’ task. [Link to How to Get Your Gun Back.

How to Find Your Badge

Spending time in Martinaise during the first few days of Disco Elysium should give you hints about the drunken rampage you embarked on prior to the game’s beginning, where at one point, a major revelation in West Martinaise will result in finding your badge:

  1. Wait until Day 3, when the water lock is mended after ‘someone’ had caused damage after driving across it.

  2. Once across, follow the tire marks leading north to a destroyed car and interact with its cabin.

  3. You’ll be prompted to wait a few hours for the tide to roll out, you can do so on the nearby swingset with Kim.

  4. Once the tide is out, interact with the cabin again to find your badge and an RCM jacket.

Making sure that you’ve found your badge will help prove your officer status to certain NPCs like Joyce Messier, and will reflect on your total accomplishments at the end of the game.
