Evil Geniuses releases s4 and benches Sumail in roster shake-up

Evil Geniuses has had a shake up of their Dota 2 roster, bringing in Abed "Abed" Azel L. Yusop and Roman "RAMZES666" Kushnarev to replace the benched Syed “SumaiL” Hassan and the departing Gustav “s4” Magnusson.

Abed is joining from Fnatic as EG's new midlane, whilst Ramzes is going to be playing offlane after his transfer over from Virtus.Pro.

In a statement accompanying the new roster announcement, Evil Geniuses said: “First, it is prudent to discuss our departures. We are releasing Gustav “s4” Magnusson into free agency, and Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan will remain under contract and be open to transfer talks. Both have earned an incredible amount of respect and appreciation here at EG for their results and the effort they’ve put into the team; they are top-flight talents, and we’re confident that they will find themselves surrounded by capable teammates.”

Abed was the first player in the world to reach 10,000 MMR, first completing the feat in June 2017 before doing it again more recently, on June 2019.

Meanwhile Ramzes666 had a very successful year with Virtus.Pro; he won the Kuala Lumpur Major before reaching the grand finals of the next two Majors. Despite consistent results across the year, Ramzes and VP ended up coming 9-12th at The International, a far cry from where they would have expected to finish.

The new team will be participating in the qualifiers for the first DPC Major of the season, as well as the Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore in December.

The Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster is now:

  1. Artour “Arteezy” Babaev
  2. Abed “Abed” Azel L. Yusop
  3. Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev
  4. Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen
  5. Tal “Fly” Aizik
