WePlay AniMajor playoffs: Teams, schedule and how to watch

Have you been paying attention to the Dota 2 Pro Circuit (DPC)? We hope so because the WePlay AniMajor DPC group stages have just concluded. Needless to say, the heat is on as teams settle the score (quite literally, in fact) in what is the final major, ahead of The International 10 starting in August this year.

The playoff stage begins today and features 12 qualifying teams, who will play best-of-three matches in a double-elimination bracket. The Grand Finals is a best-of-5 and the winning team will go home with the lion's share of a  $500,000 USD prize pool.

Teams at the WePlay AniMajor playoffs

Initially, there were 18 teams that qualified for the Major, with only 12 qualifying teams remaining.

The teams competing in the upper bracket of the playoffs include:

  • Virtus.pro
  • Team Nigma
  • Alliance

  • Team Aster
  • T1
  • Quincy Crew
  • NoPing e-sports

The lower bracket will comprise teams:

How to watch WePlay AniMajor playoffs

All of the action will be broadcast on the official WePlay Dota Twitch channel. We’re sure you’ll also be able to catch the games casted on Twitch by other users too. Otherwise, you can watch the games from within the Dota 2 game client itself.

WePlay also has a YouTube channel, which should feature some highlights from the games, if you happen to miss any of them.

To get a glimpse of what to expect, you can watch the highlights of the epic match between Team Liquid vs Evil Geniuses.

Why is the WePlay Animajor such a big deal?

The matches up to this point have been a real banger. Teams have demonstrated exceptional gameplay and it is clear that the competition is fierce. But what gives? What’s the big deal anyway?

Well, the current Major awards a total of 2700 DPC points, which determines overall standings in the DPC table. Of course, this is a huge deal for teams wanting to secure a direct invitation to the most prestigious Dota 2 event of the year, The International 10; and not to mention their share of that USD 40 million prize pool, no doubt.

For many teams, this may be their last chance at securing a spot and proving themselves worthy of placement at the prestigious event. This also means that the competition is particularly fierce, which also encourages some great Dota (so yay for us viewers).
