Arc System Works' love letter to Dragon Ball fans is filled with references to the anime, with Ultra Instinct Goku set to add one more.
Watch and learn how to trigger every dramatic finish in Dragon Ball FighterZ

If you're a Dragon Ball fan, chances are you've played (or seen) Dragon Ball FighterZ, the Arc System Works three-on-three fighting game that took over the FGC when it was released back in 2018.

One of the big selling points from the title, besides a strong gameplay foundation, is the quality of the visuals, as well as the attention to detail Arc Sys has put in, with dramatic finishes being a huge part of that fan service.

Activating when meeting certain conditions, dramatic finishes are well-crafted references from the anime, however, the requirements can be very specific for some.

With the release of Ultra Instinct Goku on the horizon, check out every single dramatic finish and learn how to pull them off yourself.

First off, there's one condition for every cutscene: a player has to finish the round by taking down the opponent with a standing heavy attack or a vanish. If you pull this off while meeting the stage and character requirements, the dramatic finish will start playing.

Now, onto the specific scenarios.

Goku (Super Saiyan Blue) vs Kefla

Conditions: Goku Blue must beat Kefla. Stage selected should be Space.

Contrary to initial beliefs, the dramatic finish that was made available with Ultra Instinct Goku's release has to be triggered with the Super Saiyan Blue version of Kakarot.

The scene is a throwback to Dragon Ball Super, when Goku managed to eliminate Kefla spectacularly from the Tournament of Power with an unmastered version of UI, called Omen.

Trunks vs Frieza

Conditions: Trunks must defeat Frieza. Stage selected should be Rocky Field.

To kick start the Android saga in Dragon Ball Z, a Saiyan from the future named Trunks traveled back in time to warn the Z-Warriors from the impending danger and had no trouble dismantling a restored Frieza.

Gohan (Teen) vs Cell

Conditions: Gohan must beat Cell. Stage selected should be Wasteland.

An iconic moment in DBZ, Gohan, with the help from a deceased Goku, trumps Perfect Cell to put an end to his reign of terror, capping off the Android saga.

Goku (Super Saiyan) vs Kid Buu

Conditions: Super Saiyan Goku must beat Kid Bu. Stage selected should be Land of the Kai’s.

Taking the final fight against Buu away from Earth, Goku finishes him off with a powerful Spirit Bomb, hoping he gets to meet a less evil version of the villain in the future to keep practising.

Nappa vs Yamcha

Condition: Nappa must beat Yamcha. Stage selected should be Rocky Field.

The punching bag of DBZ is a somewhat decent character in DBFZ, sadly for him, the infamous scene where he gets defeated by a Saibaman snuck its way into the game.

Yamcha vs Nappa

Condition: Yamcha must beat Nappa. Stage selected should be Rocky Field.

In the only instance where ArcSys took creative liberties, they decided to redeem Yamcha with a bit of sweet revenge against Nappa.

Beerus vs Goku (Super Saiyan)

Condition: Beerus must beat Goku. Stage selected should be Space.

Following the Battle of the Gods epic conclusion that was later redone in Dragon Ball Super, Goku ultimately loses the fight against the God of Destruction, but earns his respect in the process.

Goku (Super Saiyan) vs Broly

Conditions: Goku must beat Broly. Stage selected should be Space.

Part of a different DBZ continuity, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly was too big of a name to be left out. In his debut film, Goku puts him down with a single lethal blow.

Gohan (Adult) vs Broly

Conditions: Gohan must beat Broly. Stage selected should be Wasteland.

Broly set out to look for revenge after Goku beat him, stumbling upon his descendants, Gohan and Goten. Together, alongside Goku's spirit, they put down the Legendary Super Saiyan once and for all.

Frieza vs Bardock

Conditions: Frieza must beat Bardock. Stage selected should be Space.

A proud warrior in his own right, Goku's father perished with the destruction of planet Vegeta at the hands of Frieza. He managed to get a premonition of his son's encounter with the conqueror as a parting gift.

Bardock vs Frieza

Conditions: Bardock must beat Frieza. Stage selected should be Space.

Taken from another else-world storyline aiming at explaining Frieza's fear of the Super Saiyan transformation, it's revealed that Bardock was the cause of it after surviving the destruction of planet Vegeta. He used the power-up to destroy Chilled, a relative of Frieza.

Vegito vs Zamasu (Fused)

Conditions: Vegito must beat Zamasu. Stage selected should be West City (Destroyed).

Another Dragon Ball Super reference, Vegito almost took down Zamasu with his Final Kamehameha. In FighterZ, however, that gets the job done.

Trunks vs Zamasu (Fused)

Condition: Trunks must beat Zamasu. Stage selected should be West City (Destroyed).

Trunks was the one to take down Zamasu in the anime, and that epic scene is recreated almost to perfection in DBFZ.

Goku (Base) vs Vegeta (Base)

Condition: Goku must beat Vegeta. Stage selected should be Rocky Field.

The first time both Saiyans met, it was a clash for the ages, that's retold once you pair both base versions of the characters.

Goku (Super Saiyan) vs Frieza

Conditions: Goku must beat Frieza. Stage selected should be Planet Namek (Destroyed)

In the conclusion of the Frieza saga, Goku gives him one last chance at redemption, which Frieza throws away in favour of a cheap shot that ultimately backfires.

Goku (Base) vs Frieza

Conditions: Goku must beat Frieza. Stage selected should be Planet Namek.

Right before the climax in the battle between the two rivals, Goku's Spirit Bomb was almost certain doom for Frieza. He survives it in the anime, in FighterZ, he's not so lucky.

Gogeta vs Janemba

Conditions: Gogeta must beat Janemba. Stage selected should be Land of the Kai’s

Gogeta debuted in 1995 during an alternate universe film that pitted him against now-iconic franchise villain Janemba. You can relive that epic conclusion in DBFZ.

Goku (Super Saiyan) and Frieza vs Jiren

Conditions: Goku must beat Jiren, Frieza must still be alive in the team. The stage selected should be Space.

The latest series in the Dragon Ball franchise, Super, ends with an unheard of team-up of Goku and Frieza, taking down Jiren to close up the Tournament of Power.

Gogeta vs Broly (DBS)

Conditions: Gogeta must beat Broly. The stage selected should be Planet Namek (Destroyed).

Undeniably the most cinematic dramatic finish in the entire game, the now canon versions of Gogeta and Broly duke it out in an all-out battle that's taken out directly from the recent Dragon Ball Super Broly film.
