There are various kinds of Key Items in Elden Ring that the payer can use to unlock quests, and areas and further their overall game progress. One such Key Item is the Tonic of Forgetfulness, and players might be confused as to its purpose when first receiving it.

If you find yourself stuck not knowing what to do with this item, we have you covered. In today's guide, we will be showing you exactly how to get and use the Tonic of Forgetfulness in Elden ring to aid you in furthering your journey in the Lands Between.

How to get the Tonic of Forgetfulness in Elden Ring?

To begin the quest to find and use the Tonic of Forgetfulness, find Rya near Scenic Isle.

To receive the tonic, the player must progress Rya's questline to the point where you speak to Tanith in Volcano Manor. To begin the questline, Find Rya at the pavilion just to the east of Scenic Isle and speak to her. She will ask you to retrieve a necklace that has been taken from her by a thug that is holding up nearby.

Once you retrieve it and return it to her, she will thankfully give you an invitation to Volcano Manor to meet Tanith. From here you can begin her questline and complete the tasks for Rya and Tanith until you reach the point where Tanith gives you the tonic.

Once you have the tonic, find Rya in her secret hiding place near Volcano Manor and speak to her, she will ask the player to kill her, but since you have the tonic, you have three choices available to you.

You can give the tonic to Rya, causing her to forget her troubles and return to Volcano Manor after everyone has left and you have slain Rykard. If you reload the area and find where she was standing before, you will be able to collect an item on the floor, the Daedicar's Woe.

If you choose not to give it to her and return to her after slaying Rykard, you will find she's left the Manor. She will also leave a note expressing her gratitude to the player, and say that she wishes to set out on a journey to one day be the proud daughter of Tanith. She will also leave the Daedicar's Woe with the Letter.

Choosing to not give Rya the Tonic of Forgetfulness will have her leave on a quest to become worthy of carrying on her mothers work.

Lastly, if you choose to do as Rya asks you when you first find her in her hiding place and kill her. She will simply drop the Daedicar's Woe and lament her mother before dying.

It is also worth noting that Corhyn is another NPC in Elden Ring that also can be offered the tonic. He will always refuse it, but if you didn't give it to Rya and it's still in your inventory when you do his quest. Offering it to him will slightly change the ending of his questline by changing his final location.
