Last month, Nintendo held a special Direct presentation focused on their forthcoming hardware, the Nintendo Switch 2, which included deep dives into the consoles and multiple spotlights on upcoming game releases. The latter saw a handful of Nintendo exclusives launching for the Switch 2 console like Donkey Kong Bananza, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Mario Kart World to name, but also gaining upgrade packs like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and the two recent The Legend of Zelda releases.
Plenty of third-party games will be heading to the console, as featured in the Partner Spotlight featurette, including Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, Split Fiction, Hades 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and Cyberpunk 2077. Perhaps one of the biggest gaming releases of the last five years was confirmed to be receiving a Switch 2 port, namely FromSoftware's Elden Ring, for which new details were made public recently.
The Nintendo Direct presentation for the upcoming Switch 2 console in April 2025 announced plenty of information, including hardware specs and games to look forward to. FromSoftware's Elden Ring was an unexpected surprise announcement but an exciting one nonetheless, as Switch 2 owners will finally join millions of players on other platforms to make their way to the Lands Between.
A recent article from Famitsu revealed some new details regarding the Switch 2 release of Elden Ring, for which, as of writing, a release date has yet to be confirmed for its packaged version, the Tarnished Edition. While the developer has confirmed a 2025 release for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, players can expect a few new additions to this game, including the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
The Famitsu article also revealed that the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will add two new classes on top of the ten starting classes already available to players. According to the article, the Tarnished Edition adds the Knight of Ides and Heavy Knight classes, for which we have no information regarding their base stats; each will have at the start of the game.
Furthermore, an appearance customization feature for our Spectral Steed Torrent will be included in the Tarnished Edition, as confirmed by FromSoftware, which will also be available "as additional downloadable content for other platforms" as the Tarnished Pack. Lastly, there will be new armor, weapons, and, reportedly, new combat skills included in the Tarnished Edition at its release, which we can expect to learn more likely closer to its launch once the developer announces it.
