Developed by Archetype Entertainment, EXODUS promises a new sci-fi world where player choices certainly have consequences. The studio recently revealed a key element to the game's story — the Archimedes Engine.
Described as highly advanced technology, the Archimedes Engine stabilizes orbits, controls atmospheres, terraforms land and more to make planets habitable. The machine continues to maintain these environmental factors for living conditions, but it poses a serious threat should the Engine fail.
Plagues with a technological virus known as “The Rot,” the Archimedes Engine is slowly decaying, threatening the lives of everything humanity has built. It's up to The Travelers to learn how to repair these life-saving machines, as their original creators have been lost to time thousands of years ago.

So what about the wider story of EXODUS? Well, humanity has fled from an uninhabitable Earth, only to find a new home in a dangerous galaxy. Players take on the role of The Traveler, who must steal alien weapons and technology from this new galactic threat. But the biggest danger is Time Dilation. As you head out on expeditions, time passes at an extrodinary rate back home. What seems like a day to The Traveler could be a decade for everyone else.
Sounds like Interstellar in game format? Well, EXODUS might have more in common with Nolan's epic than you think, as Matthew McConaughey is set to voice a character. The actor appeared on stage for the game's reveal at The Game Awards 2023.
If you can't quite wait to get stuck into the world of EXODUS, Peter F. Hamilton’s upcoming book Archimedes Engine is set to release on Tuesday, September 17. The novel, set 40,000 years before the events of EXODUS, features a unique story, so players won't need to worry about spoilers if they want to learn more about the game's world.
