Far Cry 6 map guide: regions explained, Rank Level, where to explore, more

Ubisoft has become synonymous with its detailed and unrestricted maps across its titles. Far Cry 6 is no exception with Yara spread across three main regions, with one of the main questlines attached and plenty of unique characters to meet, treasure hunts to embark on and a few animal buddies to pet.

Ultimately, at the heart of the game is the decision of where to go first? We have compiled a complete Far Cry 6 guide into the large map as well key information and details that can decide where players will want to travel first.

Far Cry 6: What are the game’s main regions?

The island map of Yara is vast, expansive and diverse. Following the game’s opening sequence, Dani lands on the small island of Isla Santuario with the rest of the Libertad members. The map will be limited as such as players will need to complete a handful of missions for the Libertad for the full map to be unlocked.

Players will be able to see all the regions or territories of Yara however, it presents players with an interesting dilemma. Before deciding which region to explore next, Dani will decide between three Yara factions she will need to convince first to join the revolution. Each region comes with its own side stories, engaging quests and fun treasure hunts to complete during Dani’s time in the region.

What this game does fantastically well is that players won’t be forced to choose a region in a particular order nor will the game punish you for choosing one over the other. Players are free to choose between the three regions and their respective missions to start off with:

  • Madrugada: Yara’s western region features the main questline, Meet the Monteros
  • Valle De Oro: Yara’s central-most region features the main questline, Meet Maximus Matanzas
  • El Este: Yara’s eastern region features the main questline, Meet the Legends

Madrugada is on the west side of the island which houses the central location, the Viviro pharmaceutical plant, where antagonist Anton Castillo’s power and money are derived from. Aside from the robust tobacco farms players can find throughout Madrugada, Dani will also encounter the Montero family in this region and learn more about the family’s history with Castillo.

With the engaging family drama at the Montero Farm in Mogote Foothills, an array of colourful characters to meet, the Madrugada region would make the best start for introducing players to the island and its narrative. And with a Guerilla Camp to unlock here, there is a major bonus lurking nearby which will be explained later.

In the centre of Yara is Valle De Oro, a sprawling region that is as expansive and diverse as the characters  Dani will meet. Home to the rap group, Maximus Matanzas, an outspoken proponent against Castillo and his regime which may be counter-acted with the presence of Castillo’s compatriot, Maria Marquessa.

A bit more challenging than what players will experience in Madrugada, Valle De Oro will lean into the game’s influential aspects of the game. Plus with another Guerilla Camp and an Amigo to unlock, Valle de Oro will demand plenty of players’ time and attention.

The last region, El Este, provides players with plenty of vantage points due to the region’s mountain ranges and dense jungles. An adventurer’s location for skydiving, rock climbing, paragliding and more, this region is also home to two prominent freedom fighter groups: Legends of ‘67 and La Moral.

While neither are on the friendliest of terms, Dani will have a tough time deliberating with both groups to join the Libertad in the fight for power and control. El Este brings a massive change to the map’s terrain with another Guerrilla Camp and a feisty rooster to content with, it will challenge the most adventurous of players toward the region.

Far Cry 6: Rank Level explained

As Ubisoft has implemented a character levelling mechanic into Far Cry 6, as such, whichever region players choose to travel first players will encounter enemies and bosses with a specific level too. This can be identified by a Rank Level which is visible on the map as smaller areas will display a Rank Level. This can ultimately decide which region players should visit first.

As the game progresses, enemies will be more powerful and their forces and camps will become heavily fortified. As such, it’s important for players to keep levelling up Dani before heading to the next area as she may encounter enemies above her Rank Level.

Far Cry 6: Which region should Dani choose to explore first?

As such, based on the game’s Rank Level mechanic and the attention to detail of the game’s narrative, heading to the Madrugada region would be the best option for players. The Rank Level in the region’s outskirts isn’t overwhelming as players can easily defeat enemies before reaching the central district of the region.

Other than that, the main questline for the Madrugada region is an enjoyable gaming experience paired up with the region’s terrain is sprawling with open roads, expansive valleys and plenty of time to accustom oneself to the gameplay mechanics.

A huge bonus is that starting out in the Madrugada region first means that players will be able to find and unlock their first Amigo, Chorizo, at the Montero Farm. All players need to do is start the main questline and you’ll be able to meet and pet Chorizo in no time.
